Peckett 0-4-0 Saddle Tank Locomotive‘Foleshill’ Engine No.2085 built in 1948

In 1880 Peckett & Son Ltd took over the locomotive building business originally established in 1864 by Fox Walker & Co., at the Atlas Engine Works, St George, Bristol.  Like its predecessor, the company became well known for a range of small industrial type locomotives, many of them 0-4-0 and 0-6-0 wheel arrangements.  The ‘steam only’ tradition was maintained until 1954, the last steam locomotive being No.2165 – on outside cylindered 0-6-0 side tank engine – which left the works on 12th June 1958.
